📍Cincinnati Art Museum. Eden Park. Cincinnati, OH.

The Cincinnati Art Museum, located in the scenic Eden Park, is one of the oldest art museums in the United States.

It was founded in 1881 and officially opened to the public in 1886.

The museum’s impressive collection spans over 6,000 years of world history, with more than 67,000 works of art.

These include paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, prints, photographs, and textiles from various cultures and time periods.

Some of the museum’s strengths include its collection of European and American paintings, ancient artifacts, African art, and contemporary works.

The museum frequently hosts special exhibitions that feature significant works from other institutions and private collections.

A few of my personal favorites include:

The Undergrowth with Two Figures by Vincent Van Gogh.

Painted in 1890, this piece is a prime example of van Gogh’s mastery of color and his deep connection to nature.

The painting depicts a dense forest floor with vibrant green undergrowth and two barely discernible figures emerging from the foliage.

The interplay of light and shadow, along with the bold brushstrokes, creates a sense of movement and life.

Truly stunning in person.

The Egyptian Mummies.

The museum houses two Egyptian mummies, including the mummy of a woman named “Djedhor,” believed to be from the Ptolemaic Period (305-30 BCE).

These mummies are accompanied by a range of artifacts such as canopic jars, amulets, and a beautifully painted coffin, offering a glimpse into the rituals and beliefs surrounding death in ancient Egypt.

Admission to the museum is free, although some special exhibitions may have an entry fee.

Definitely a must if you find yourself in the area!
